New Zealander Scott McLaughlin's Supercars career continues in high gear, with the rising star garnering his second Barry Sheene medal.

The Volvo racer received the gong for best and fairest driver at the end-of-season gala in Sydney on Monday night after securing third in the championship.

He finished behind compatriot Shane van Gisbergen and Jamie Whincup (both Holden) following Sunday's Sydney 500.

McLaughlin, 23, also won the medal in 2014.

He's raced for Garry Rogers Motorsport and is switching to DJR Team Penske in 2017.

Van Gisbergen was officially presented with the championship trophy after the New Zealander claimed his first title on the Homebush street circuit at the weekend.

He's the first Kiwi to win the championship since Jim Richards in 1991.

Brothers Ross and Jim Stone were inducted into the Hall of Fame in honour of their success as team owners between 1998 to 2012.

Red Bull Racing is the champion team for the seventh straight year.
