A cross-party delegation led by retiring Labor MP Annette King will head to Europe to discuss political developments post-Brexit.

National MP Melissa Lee and NZ First's Tracey Martin will travel to Belgium and the United Kingdom this week for the inter-parliamentary meeting with the European Parliament.

"It is an important time for our MPs to be meeting with their counterparts as the coming months will see significant political developments in Europe, including elections in France and Germany and the start of the formal Brexit process," Speaker David Carter said on Tuesday.

Ahead of the centenaries of the World War I battles of Messines and Passchendaele later this year the delegation will visit sites in Flanders.

They'll also meet with the Belgian Chamber of Representatives President, British MPs and Pacific and Asia Minister for State Alok Sharma.
