NZ NewswireNZ Newswire 21/07/2016

Rio Olympics teammates Marcus Daniell and Michael Venus will square off on opposite sides of the net in the quarter-finals at the Gstaad ATP tournament in Switzerland.

Daniell and Brazilian partner Marcelo Demoliner earned their spot in the quarters after downing Swedes Johan Brunstrom and Andreas Siljestrom 7-6(6) 6-4.

Venus and Croatian Mate Pavic, top seeds in Gstaad, eased through after winning their match against Russians Mikhail Elgin and Mikhail Youzny 6-2 6-2.

Daniell and Venus qualified for Rio by being the country's highest-ranked players on June 6.

They are on the list of 32 combinations for the men's doubles from 25 countries, which include Roger Federer and Stan Wawrinka for Switzerland, Andy and Jamie Murray for Britain and Serbian pair Novak Djokovic and Nenad Zimonjic.

The New Zealanders have partnered each other in the Davis Cup but usually have different partners on the pro circuit.
