NZ NewswireNZ Newswire 5/06/2016

New Zealand road professional Dion Smith has produced three powerful rides to finish a meritorious 11th overall in the Tour of Luxembourg.

Riding for the One Pro Cycling team, Smith was 53rd after the prologue but climbed rapidly through the field with top-10 places in each of the last three stages.

Smith was eighth in second stage over 163km, fifth in the 177km third stage and seventh in the 178km fourth and final stage on Sunday.

His consistent effort follows a general classification fifth placing on the Four Days of Dunkirk Tour in France in May.

Smith's Kiwi team-mate Hayden McCormick was 30th overall while veteran New Zealand professional Greg Henderson was 42nd, having set up his Lotto-Soudal team-mate Andre Greipel of Germany for victory on the first stage.
