Kiwi Regional Airlines ditch ChCh flights

NZ NewswireNZ Newswire 2/05/2016

One of New Zealand's smallest airlines is cancelling proposed flights into Christchurch but it's not a sign the carrier is in trouble according to its chief executive.

Kiwi Regional Airlines were set to fly daily from Dunedin to Nelson via Christchurch from May 14 but it shelved plans on Tuesday according to chief executive Ewan Wilson.

He said slow sales in winter, increased capacity of other airlines and difficulty in getting the slot times it wanted led to the cancellation of the service.

However, he said the airline was not in trouble.

The carrier began services in October 2015 and announced plans to crowdsource $2 million to buy a new aircraft earlier this year.
