Rookie Kiwi sailors Isaac McHardie and William McKenzie have continued their impressive form to lead the 49er fleet after six races at the final sailing World Cup regatta in Melbourne.

The pair have made the most of their chance in the absence of Olympic gold medallists Peter Burling and Blair Tuke, who are now concentrating on America's Cup racing.

McHardie and McKenzie hold a narrow one-point lead over second-placed Spaniards Diego Botin le Chever and Iago Lopez Marra at the halfway mark, with fellow Kiwis Josh Porebski and Trent Rippey six points astray in fifth place.

Nacra 17 pair Olivia Mackay and Micah Wilkinson have edged up the leaderboard to sit second, finishing inside the top three in all six races.

They trail leaders Jason Waterhouse and Lisa Darmanin by six points after the Australians picked up wins in all but one race, where they finished second behind the Kiwis.
