Kiwi short film takes top award

Media Design School's film Accidents, Blunders and Calamities won best animated film at the Comic-Con International Independent Film Film Festival in San Diego.

The Comic-Con convention is held over four days each year and attracts people from around the world.

The Auckland film was judged by a panel that included the editor of critic website Rotten Tomatoes.

Media Design School lecturer James Cunningham said the win offered an invaluable opportunity for his students' work to gain overseas recognition.

"I am pretty amazed at getting this award."

His students, who have since graduated, were "super pumped" by the win, he said.

The film has already won a number of awards at New Zealand and international festivals.
