Fourth-seeded Sitak and American Nicholas Monroe were leading Belgian Steve Darcis and Frenchman Benoit Paire 5-0 in the first set before the latter pair retired from their quarter-final. Darcis complained of a wrist injury.

Sitak and Monroe will face Indian pair Rohan Bopana and Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan for a place in the final.

The Kiwi is in fine form, having won the singles and doubles final at the recent New Zealand championships.

He has earned a wildcard in both formats for the ASB Classic men's tournament.
