New Zealand snowboarder Zoi Sadowski Synnott has picked up a bronze medal in her first season on the FIS World Cup tour.

The Wanaka 15-year-old finished third in Big Air at the tour event in Quebec, Canada, to improve on her fourth place slopestyle finish at Mammoth Mountain in the US last weekend.

Sadowski Synnott qualified fifth from a field of 28 to sneak into the top six, then backed up a 78.25 point opening run with a third-run 72.75 to total 151.00.

First place on 165 points went to Austria's Anna Gasser, while American Julia Marino was second on 162.50.

"I was completely ecstatic," Sadowski Synnott said afterwards.

"I'd landed both of my runs so I already had my score on the board and a chance to improve on my third run."

Sochi Olympian Jossi Wells had earlier finished third in the men's freeski slopestyle qualifying heats, and will also contest the final early on Monday (NZT).
