If Kiwis decided the outcome of the US presidential election, Donald Trump would be toast.

A poll shows only nine per cent would vote for him, with a huge 76 per cent backing Hillary Clinton.

The Newshub-Reid Research poll released on Wednesday shows Trump's nine per cent was lower than the 15 per cent of voters who didn't know or didn't care.

Trump received little backing from voters who support National, Labour and the Greens - but NZ First was a different story.

The breakdown shows of the nine per cent backing Trump, 9.3 per cent were National voters, 5.7 per cent Labour and 23 per cent NZ First.

Newshub polls question about 1000 voters and have a margin of error of plus or minus 3.2 per cent.
