Kiwis give local police a thumbs up

Most Kiwis are happy with the performance of local cops, an independently-run survey has found.

Eighty-four per cent of the 9266 people taking part in the annual Citizens' Satisfaction Survey said they were satisfied or very satisfied by the force's quality of service.

The report prepared by a research firm on behalf of New Zealand police also found seventy-seven per cent of respondents trusted the force.

Deputy chief executive strategy Mark Evans said he was happy by the results, but there was always "a requirement to do better".

"Our vision is to have the trust and confidence of all," he said.

"The survey shows us areas in which we can make improvements and, of course, there are also variations between different districts."

"We can't take it for granted and will continue to work hard."
