World No.1 Lydia Ko has been denied a third successive major, beaten on the first hole a sudden-death play-off by Brooke Henderson at the women's PGA Championship near Seattle.

World No.1 Ko had taken a three-shot lead into the final nine holes before fourth-ranked Henderson launched a strong late run to close with a round of 65 to draw even at the Sahalee Country Club course at Sammamish in Washington State.

While Ko found the green in two on the 18th - the first play-off hole - she missed a tricky 16-foot putt and had to settle for par.

The 18-year-old Canadian's inch-perfect second shot left her with a three-foot birdie putt which she made for her first major title.
