Kiwi golfer Lydia Ko has carded back-to-back rounds of 71 to sit in a share of 27th place at the midway stage of the LPGA tournament in Michigan

The world No.1 birdied three of her opening five holes at the Travis Pointe Country Club in Ann Arbor, turning three under the card after bogeying the par three seventh.

She could manage only one more birdie over the closing nine, but picked up two more bogeys to again finish one-under for a two-round tally of 142.

Ko has slipped further off the pace set by Thai golfer Ariya Jutanugarn, who backed up her opening 65 with a four-under 68 to hold a two-shot lead over Korea's So Yeon Ryu, overnight leader Christina Kim and US compatriot Marina Alex.

Jutanugarn had four back-nine birdies, including No.18 when her approach went off a hospitality suite and landed in a greenside bunker 20 yards from the hole. Her sand shot set her up for a short putt and an 11-under 133 total.

She is coming off a win at the Kingsmill Championship after becoming the first Thai winner in tour history the previous week in Alabama.
