Lydia Ko has put mixed form behind her to power into contention near the end of the rain-hit third round of an LPGA Tour event in Malaysia.

World No.1 Ko was in a share of fifth place when foul weather forced the players from the course at the Sime Darby LPGA in Kuala Lumpur.

The New Zealander had fired six birdies on a flawless third day which was cut short at the 16th hole.

She had climbed 18 spots, sitting on eight-under, just three strokes behind leader Anna Nordquist. The Swede, who was four-under for the day, still had eight holes to play.

It is shaping as Ko's best round for several weeks.

The 19-year-old's form has dipped since winning her last title more than three months ago.
