Ko's score in windy conditions at the Ko Olina Golf Club put her in a tie for 13th, three shots from the leading pair of Thailand's Moriya Jutanugarn and Australian Minjee Lee.

The world No.1 had come into the tournament after back-to-back victories, including in the year's first major, the ANA Inspiration.

But playing in difficult afternoon conditions, Ko had an early double-bogey after putting her drive out of bounds at the par-four second hole.

She then mixed two birdies and two bogeys to be two-over at the turn.

However, the 18-year-old New Zealander was mistake-free on the back nine as she picked up three further birdies.
