Casey Kopua has confirmed she will be part of the New Zealand's new elite netball league by signing to stay with the Bay of Plenty Magic.

The former Silver Ferns skipper, who has sat out this year because of the birth of her first child, is among the first five signings for the Magic, who will play under a new coach Margaret Forsyth.

Also confirmed are Silver Fern Grace Rasmussen, Sam Sinclair, Kelly Jury and Monica Falkner.

Forsyth says she is delighted to have a core of players who have been part of the Magic under predecessor Julie Fitzgerald.

"They will form the back bone of a strong team - something that the club has become renowned for and that we are determined to continue," she said.

The Magic see the retention of Kopua and Rasmussen as a particular coup.

"Casey is one of world netball's most experienced internationals and Grace is one of New Zealand's more influential players, and they will be the soul of the team," Forsyth said.

"They are both excellent with the younger players and great role models for netballers in our region."
