Mr Little will attend official events in Waitangi on Sunday and Monday but joined Kiwis in Sydney for early celebrations on Saturday.

Joined by Maori MP Rino Tirikatene they visited Greystanes, a suburb in the city's west where Nga Uri O Rahiri are hoping to build Australia's first marae.

The community group will fund the site, which it's hoped will become a cultural and sporting hub attracting the likes of the All Blacks and Warriors players.

The pair then headed to the Sydney Waitangi Festival where they met with Kiwis celebrating their national day overseas.

Mr Little is due to attend an official powhiri at Te Tii Marae on Sunday and the dawn service on Monday.
