Labour leader's plane hit by lightning

NZ NewswireNZ Newswire 13/07/2016

Labour leader Andrew Little has been given a bit of jolt when his morning flight to Auckland was hit by lightning.

Air New Zealand flight NZ410 was struck by a bolt mid-air while flying from Wellington on Thursday morning.

Mr Little said there had been a "big bang, few bumps" but that the plane had arrived safely.

An Air NZ spokeswoman said the plane landed without incident and would be inspected by engineers.

"Lightning strikes are not uncommon and aircraft are designed with this in mind," she said.
