THIS IS WHAT LABOUR'S NEW IMMIGRATION POLICY IS ALL ABOUT

* To reduce net migration by 20,000 to 30,000 a Labour-led government will:

* Stop issuing student visas for courses below a bachelor's degree which aren't independently assessed to be of high quality

* Limit permission to work after graduating to those with a bachelor's degree or higher

* Ensure work visas are only issued when a genuine effort has been made to find Kiwi workers

* Remove the skilled migrant category bonus points gained by those studying or working in New Zealand

* Introduce an exceptional skills visa for people who will "enrich New Zealand's society"

* Introduce a Kiwibuild visa to ease the shortage of tradespeople

* There will be no changes to Pacific or working holiday visas

* The refugees quota will be raised to 1500 a year. At present it is 750 rising to 1000 next year.
