Jose Antonio Reyes has fired Espanyol to a Spanish La Liga victory after Javi Fuego had almost gifted the points to Real Betis.

Espanyol have completed a thrilling late comeback with two goals in two minutes to beat Real Betis 2-1 in Spain's La Liga on on Friday (Saturday AEDT).

Ruben Castro's penalty in the 78th minute seemed to have earned the visitors an away win but Javi Fuego bundled the bacll home 10 minutes later and Jose Antonio Reyes rifled home the winner in stoppage time.

A dour game in rainy conditions burst into life with less than 15 minutes to go, when Fuego fouled Antonio Sanabria in the area and Castro smashed home the resultant spot kick.

Espanyol pressed for an equaliser and got it when Antonio Adan kept out Gerard Moreno's effort but Fuego made amends for conceding the penalty by powering the rebound home.

Reyes then turned the game on its head when he cut into the area and blasted a strike with his right foot past Adan and into the top corner.

A former Sevilla player, Reyes celebrated wildly against his Andalusian rivals.

"I remembered the Sevilla fans [with my celebration], it was for them," Reyes said.

The result lifts Espanyol to eighth with 43 points from 29 games, while Betis stay 13th on 31 points.
