Lebanon has banned the Hollywood film Wonder Woman in protest over its star, Israeli actress Gal Gadot.

Lebanon has banned the public screening of the US superhero film Wonder Woman because of its lead Israeli actress, Gal Gadot.

Lebanon is officially in a state of war with Israel and has boycotted Israeli products for decades.

An anti-Israel campaign in Lebanon hailed the Interior Ministry's last-minute decision to ban the film.

"Congratulations to Lebanon, to Palestine. Congratulations to resistance," Samah Idriss, a founder of the Campaign to Boycott Supporters of Israel in Lebanon, said on her Facebook page.

"Normalisation was dealt a blow with the prevention of the film of the Israeli soldier," she added.

Gadot, who was Miss Israel 2004 before launching an acting career, did two years of compulsory service in the Israeli army.

The film was originally set to hit Lebanese theatres on Wednesday.

Lebanon also bars its citizens from travelling or having contacts with Israelis.
