A disastrous finish for Danny Lee has resulted in a plunge of more than 20 places down the leaderboard on the final day of the Players Championship in Florida.

New Zealand No.1 Lee carded double-bogeys on the 17th and 18th holes to fall from 11th overnight to a share of 35th at the rich US PGA Tour event in Ponte Vedra Beach.

His two-under tally was 13 strokes shy of Australian Jason Day, the wire-to-wire leader who was barely challenged throughout the unofficial "fifth major". The world No.1 finished four shots clear of American Kevin Chappell.

Lee sat inside the top-10 at the turn after an opening hole bogey was followed by birdies on the par-five second and ninth holes.

Successive bogeys early in his back nine were followed by a forgettable ending. He found water off the tee at the par-three 17th, the famed island green hole, before repeating the dose at the par-four 18th.

Following his ninth placing last week in North Carolina, world No.37 Lee is projected to improve slightly to 64th on the Tour's points standings.
