Lee third after Memorial first round

NZ NewswireNZ Newswire 2/06/2016

Danny Lee unfurled five birdies and a memorable pitch for eagle to share third place after the first round of the PGA Tour event in Ohio.

New Zealand No.1 Lee sits two strokes behind American leader Dustin Johnson after his six-under 66 at the Memorial Tournament in Dublin.

The only blemish was a bogey on the fourth hole while the highlight was sinking an approach shot from 89 yards on the par-five seventh hole.

A flawless back nine reaped four birdies for the world No.41, who is on track to make the cut for the 18th time in 21 appearances this season.

He sits alongside world No.1 Jason Day of Australia and three others, one shot behind second-placed American Brendan Steele.

The second Kiwi on the PGA Tour, Tim Wilkinson, isn't playing this week.
