NZ NewswireNZ Newswire 20/05/2016

New Zealand golfer Danny Lee holds a share of the lead after firing a flawless seven-under 63 on the first day of the PGA Tour event in Texas.

Opening on the back nine at the TPC Four Seasons Resort, Lee kickstarted his round with three successive birdies, sinking a 33-foot put at the par-four 15th to add another and turn four under the card.

Lee, ranked 39th in the world, added three more birdies in his closing nine to share first place with Spaniard Sergio Garcia and American Johnson Wagner.

World No.2 Jordan Spieth, fellow American Dustin Johnson and Sweden's Freddie Jacobson share fourth place at six under while Tom Hoge (US) was also six under the card after 14 holes when the rain-delayed event was halted due to bad light.

In his last start, Lee finished in a share of 35th place at the Players Championship in Florida, plunging 20 places down the leaderboard after a disastrous final round at Ponte Vedra Beach.
