The legal bills for sorting out Prince's estate are already running into the millions.

The special administrator overseeing Prince's estate is seeking permission to pay several law firms for work on the estate, with the biggest share - $US1.9 million ($A2.50 million) - going to the Stinson Leonard Street firm.

Smaller amounts push the tab near $US2 million, through June 30.

Prince died on April 21 of a drug overdose. He was 57.

The special administrator, Bremer Trust, listed the fees in a document made public on Monday.

Bremer also asked the court handling Prince's estate to approve its own fees - but filed those amounts under seal.

Messages with Bremer Trust's attorney weren't immediately returned.

Another document shows Bremer is requesting permission to list some of Prince's properties for sale.
