Leicester into Champions League last 16

Leicester and Real Madrid have progressed to the last 16 of the Champions League on a busy matchday in Europe.

Title holders Real Madrid have advanced to the last 16 of the Champions League with a 2-1 win at 10-man Sporting Lisbon while Leicester City also progressed but Tottenham was eliminated.

Cristiano Ronaldo set up Raphael Varane for the opener, Sporting levelled from Adrien Silva's 80th-minute penalty although Joao Perreira was earlier sent off, but Karim Benzema clinched victory in the 87th.

Surprise English Premier League champions Leichester advance as group winners from a 2-1 win over Club Brugge, and now also in the last 16 are Monaco, who beat Spurs 2-1 with Juventus and Bayer Leverkusen also going through.

The five teams join Borussia Dortmund - who thrashed Legia Warsaw in a competition-record 8-4 goalfest on the night -, Arsenal, Paris Saint-Germain, Atletico Madrid and Bayern Munich; with six spots still up for grabs.

Juve won 3-1 at 10-man Europa League champions Sevilla; Olympique Lyon prevailed 1-0 at Dinamo Zagreb; Copenhagen drew 0-0 with Porto; and Leverkusen drew 1-1 at CSKA Moscow.
