Levi Sherwood off the pace at X Games

NZN 5/06/2016

New Zealand motocross rider Levi Sherwood has finished down the field in his return to international competition at the X Games in Austin, Texas.

Sherwood was fifth in his favoured freestyle competition and seventh in the quarter pipe, won by Australian Josh Sheehan and Frenchman Tom Pages respectively.

The high-flying Palmerston North rider is returning from an ankle injury which ended his 2015 season prematurely.

He had surgery in September to remove a screw which had been inserted the year before and admitted this week he is still to return to full fitness after a period spent mostly recovering in New Zealand.

The 24-year-old has won three silver medals at previous X Games.

He is targeting the only X-Fighters event of 2016, in Madrid on June 24.
