Chiefs second five-eighth Anton Lienert-Brown has been called into the All Blacks squad as cover for the injured Sonny Bill Williams.

The Christchurch-raised 21-year-old was named on Thursday after Williams this week ruptured an Achilles tendon in the Rio Olympics sevens competition, keeping him out of the Rugby Championships, which starts next week.

Williams would have missed the first Test in Sydney but would have been in the mix for subsequent matches.

There are already three centres in Steve Hansen's squad - Ryan Crotty, Malakai Fekitoa and George Moala.

Lienert-Brown, who represented New Zealand in last year's under-20 world champs, has been with the Chiefs since 2014.
