Gisborne and East Coast residents now have power fully restored, after another electricity outage for final repairs to the high voltage lines in the early hours of Sunday.

Electricity was mean to be off from 6am until about 2pm on Sunday for final repairs, but the job was finished four hours ahead of schedule.

The whole district had power restored just after 10am, delighting locals.

Residents thanked Eastland Network on social media for restoring in time for breakfast.

The lines in the Hangaroa region, north of Wairoa, were downed last Monday by a light plane crash that killed two. It created a 33-hour power outage for about 40,000 Gisborne and East Coast residents.

The region's power supply is now secured, with both 110kV transmission circuits fully operational, says Eastland Network general manager Brent Stewart.
