Lions players drowning in kit for NZ tour

The British and Irish Lions may have a tough task ahead of them in New Zealand - but they will certainly look the part this summer.

As the squad met in London for their traditional pre-tour 'Messy Monday' get-together this week, they were handed a remarkable 64 items of free clothing and accessories.

That included 36 pieces of team-branded training kit and 28 items of bespoke formal wear, including suits, jackets and shirts from Thomas Pink. The haul included boxer shorts, pocket squares, gloves, gym bags and beanie hats.

A number of players, including Joe Marler, Ben Te'o, Anthony Watson, Jonathan Davies and Rhys Webb, were in happy mood as they posed for a range of photographs while getting dressed for their suit-fittings.

A half-dressed Marler showing off the boxer shorts while holding a rugby ball and Webb displaying his torso as he put on a shirt were among the images released.

Wales hooker Ken Owens was taken aback by the amount free items he received at administration day at the Syon Park Hotel in London.

"It's slightly different to my kit drop at the Scarlets. We have got two very, very big kit bags, which is 15 gym T-shirts and vests and all sorts, two suits, plenty of shirts, shoes," he said.

"It's actually more than I have got in my house, in my wardrobe. I've got my clothes sorted for the next 10 years."

The 41-man Lions squad will leave for New Zealand on May 29.
