Lions tours tickets selling fast: NZ Rugby

Three-quarters of tickets available to watch this year's British and Irish Lions tour have been sold, NZ Rugby says.

Fifteen weeks out from the tour opener in Whangarei, rugby bosses are predicting the 10-match tour in June and July will be one of the biggest sports events the country has staged.

NZ Rugby general manager of the series, Nigel Cass, says there were 150,000 entries in the ballot to watch the three Tests.

Those games, along with a match against the Crusaders on June 10, are already sold out.

"We're confident we're on track to fill stadiums throughout the country," Cass said.

"Several ticket categories across all venues are already exhausted. The clear message is don't leave it too late to buy tickets for the matches still on sale."

Only general admission tickets are available for the opening match against a New Zealand Barbarians team in Whangarei on June 3 and a clash with the Maori All Blacks in Rotorua two weeks later.

There is still availability in some ticket categories for tour matches against the Blues, Highlanders, Chiefs and Hurricanes.
