© File. Two men wearing masks and armed with knives and screwdrivers have robbed a liquor store in south Auckland.

The aggravated robbery of the Thirsty Liquor store on Great South Road, Papatoetoe, occurred shortly after 4pm on Friday, says Inspector Julia Lynch, the acting Counties Manukau district commander.

The men took alcohol and cigarettes and left in a stolen car, travelling towards Otahuhu.

This vehicle, a 1990s silver Nissan Bluebird saloon registration DEB613, was found abandoned a short time later on Swaffield Road.

Police are conducting a scene examination.

The shop attendant was not injured but is shaken.

Last weekend hundreds of people marched in Manukau, south Auckland, calling for tougher penalties and more police action against violent crime directed at small businesses, including dairies.
