Loaded police gun left in parliament

NZ NewswireNZ Newswire 17/06/2016

Police have embarrassingly had to retrieve a loaded Glock firearm one of their staff left in a bathroom in parliament.

They said the gun was "accidentally" left there on Thursday and it was retrieved from an "occupant" of the bathroom as soon as police were told it was there.

It was a "regrettable incident" that was being taken seriously, said Superintendent Chris Scahill, national manager response and operations.

"We acknowledge the potential risk that this could have posed".

An investigation is under way.
