Local body postal voters urged to act now

NZ Newswire logoNZ Newswire 4/10/2016

The deadline for voting in the local body elections isn't until midday Saturday, but postal electors have been advised to cast their ballot now.

Voting papers have to be posted by the end of Wednesday to ensure they reach the relevant councils in time, Local Government New Zealand says.

Non-posted voting papers can be dropped into a council ballot box before the 12 noon Saturday deadline.

Auckland Council says so far 24.4 per cent of the region's eligible voters have returned their ballots and it expects that number to swell rapidly as the cut-off looms.
