Lorde releases new song with tour dates

Kiwi superstar Lorde has released a new single alongside details of her Melodrama world tour, which includes six gigs in New Zealand in November.

The 20-year-old debuted the new song, Sober, at a pre-Coachella show last month, but the official recording was released on Friday.

The single will be on the new album, which comes out on June 16, along with Green Light and Liability.

Earlier this week she opened up in a with Daily Telegraph's Stellar magazine about excessive drinking after the relationship break up with Auckland photographer James Lowe, and many of the new singles have an ode to alcohol.

The North Shore export revealed show dates on Friday morning in a video on Twitter.

She joked: "Only in 2017 would one be launching a tour and watching Comey testify at the same time" in reference to former FBI director James Comey's testimony in front of the US Senate Intelligence Committee.

She plays a number of festivals in Europe and North America, including Glastonbury and Lollapalooza in Chicago, before her 28-gig Melodrama tour kicks off in Manchester on September 26 with American R&B singer Khalid.

It takes in dates in Britain, the US, Canada and Europe before moving to New Zealand in the first week of November.
