A tourist was lost in bush near Raglan for 10 hours before hardy rescuers found her on Tuesday morning.

The tourist, from Israel, called police for help at about 5pm on Monday, saying she had got lost on the Mt Karioi Track, about 8km from the township.

She had entered the popular mountain hike overlooking Raglan's sea from the Wainui Rd end at about 10am that morning.

Although her cellphone battery was running low, police kept in contact with her and as she had minimal clothing, no food and little water, a search and rescue team, including a dog, set out to find her.

Temperatures dropped below 0 that night in the area.

She was found "fit and well" at 3.30am using GPS co-ordinates from her phone, senior sergeant Greg Foster says.

"After finding her, the teams stayed with her and she was taken out of the bush by the Westpac Rescue Helicopter after 9am [Tuesday]."
