Low-key finish for Kiwis at US Open

NZ NewswireNZ Newswire 20/06/2016

Danny Lee and Tim Wilkinson have finished an underwhelming United State Open well down the leaderboard after struggling to make the cut at the weather-disrupted event.

Winner Dustin Johnson wrapped up his win with a birdie at the 18th hole on the challenging Oakmont Country Club course in Pennsylvania.

Lee, ranked 43rd in the world, had completed the storm-affected first round in a tie for seventh place after battling round in one-under 69.

But it was all downhill after that, Lee carding seven-over 77 for the second round before finishing with back-to-back 74s for a four-round tally of 14-over 294 and a share of 57th place.

Wilkinson's best round in his major debut was his opening 71, as he went on to shoot three successive 75s and take a share of 61st place.
