Lower Hutt party victim dies

Jardin Whanga-Elliott, 21, was chased by a group from a 21st party in Naenae and later found with serious head injuries in the early hours of Sunday.

Police believed he was unlikely to survive and on Wednesday morning confirmed he had died in Wellington Hospital.

"Police are now treating this as a homicide inquiry and are working to piece together what happened," they said in a statement.

They are still appealing for any witnesses to contact them.

A 27-year-old Hutt Valley man was on Monday arrested and charged with assault. Further charges may be laid.
