Former major golf champion Y.E. Yang will contest next year's New Zealand Open in Queenstown.

Organisers announced 2009 US PGA Championship winner Yang of Korea will be in the field, while also confirming the entry of leading Kiwis Ryan Fox and Michael Hendry.

An 11-time professional winner, Yang became the first Asian-born major champion when he came from behind to head off Tiger Woods at the Hazeltine National Golf Club in Minnesota.

The 44-year-old has largely struggled since, dropping outside the world top-400.

Yang, before turning professional, spent time in New Zealand honing his craft.

European Tour player Fox and Japanese-based Hendry will seek to end New Zealand's drought at the tournament which dates back to 2003.

The New Zealand Open will be staged at Millbrook Resort and The Hills on March 9-12.
