COPENHAGEN, Denmark — Danish prosecutors have charged a 26-year-old Danish man with murdering a policeman last year outside a police station in suburban Copenhagen.

Senior prosecutor Lise-Lotte Nilas said Tuesday that the man, who was not identified, was also suspected of stealing the gun that was used in the Dec. 6 attack from a nearby shooting range.

The defendant was arrested hours after the shooting, which briefly prompted security outside all Danish police stations to be stepped up.

A trial is expected in September. If convicted, the man could face a life sentence — which in Denmark generally means 16 years in prison.
