A man who told his 7-year-old victim she was "way too hot" as he shot pornographic videos of her has been jailed for more than four years.

Sentencing Grant Pearson, 37, in the Rotorua District Court on Thursday on five charges of making objectionable publications and four of possessing similar material, Judge Phillip Cooper branded his behaviour disgusting

He jailed Pearson for four years and four months on the pornographic video charges and added 18 months for the second set of charges which related to material found on his laptop.

The sentences are to run concurrently.

Pearson had earlier admitted his offending.

Judge Cooper outlined how police had gone to Pearson's home and found a shed with sealed windows - inside they discovered videos of the girl in various poses.

In a victim impact statement the girl's mother outlined how her daughter now wet the bed, sleepwalked and had nightmares about scary animals.

She said it worried her that her child had now become flirtatious towards men and her body language was of a sexual nature.

"She was a happy little girl; now she's an insecure little girl, this is not something anybody should have to go through."

Lawyer Andy Schulze said Pearson had not indulged in banter or chat online about the images his laptop and was supported by his family.
