Man killed in Canterbury crash named

A man killed after a car struck a pole on a highway near Ashburton has been named by police.

Anthony Dennis Copperwheat, 24, died when the vehicle crashed on the Methven Highway at about 3.30am.

Police said Mr Copperwheat was originally from Britain but had been living in Methven.

No one else had been involved, a police spokeswoman said.

The cause of the incident is still being investigated.
