Man robbed by his Tinder date

NZ NewswireNZ Newswire 10/05/2016

A man has been robbed by his Tinder date, as well as the two gang members she brought along with her.

The woman asked the man for money after they met on Tinder, which he did, but was later visited by the woman and two gang members who demanded more cash and escorted him to an ATM to get it.

She texted him to tell him that she and the two gang members would be back the next day for more money.

But the man contacted police and the three people were arrested.

Police are warning anyone using the online dating app to be wary of anyone asking for money.

"Fortunately in this case, the people involved were able to be identified and arrested, however there are often times when this is not the case," Detective Senior Sergeant Martin Todd said on Tuesday.

"This is a type of scam which is a significant evolution to those such as spam emails which ask for a deposit in order for you to access a greater sum of money."
