NZ NewswireNZ Newswire 17/07/2016

The man shot by Rotorua police last week remains in Waikato Hospital in a critical condition.

The 35-year-old was flown to the hospital following the shooting on busy Te Ngae Road on Thursday afternoon.

He was still in a critical condition in the hospital's intensive care unit on Sunday at 6pm, a DHB spokeswoman said.

The Department of Corrections has said the man was on electronically monitored bail.

He was pepper sprayed and then hit with a 50,000-volt Taser gun three times without effect before being shot twice. No police were injured.
