Man stabbed in Remuera park

A 72-year-old man has been stabbed in the neck in an unprovoked attack at an Auckland park.

He received a deep cut in his neck which needed medical treatment after he was attacked by a man in Little Rangitoto Reserve in Remuera late on Wednesday afternoon.

Police say the attacker, who was not known to the victim, tried to engage the man in conversation but then lashed out before fleeing on foot.

"The victim and his family are obviously very shaken by this incident," said Detective Senior Sergeant Paul Newman.

The offender is described as being a Caucasian with olive skin, of medium build.who was wearing dark clothing at the time of the attack around 4.30pm.
