A man who allegedly rammed a police car during a pursuit in the Coromandel Peninsula is still on the run.

Police say they set up spikes in several locations after the driver of the stolen vehicle fled towards Tairua when they tried to pull him over at 10am on Sunday.

Ten minutes later the driver rammed a police vehicle, putting it out of action, before he fled again.

No one was injured in the crash.

Police said the man then dumped the car near the summit of Kopu-Hikuai Road and are appealing for sightings.

He has been described as in his twenties and about 174cm tall with a tattoo on his neck.
