Florida Sen. Marco Rubio scored a much-need victory in Minnesota Tuesday, winning the state’s Republican presidential caucus .

Rubio beat out businessman Donald Trump, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, former Ohio Gov. John Kasich and former neurosurgeon Dr. Ben Carson.

Minnesota was considered Rubio’s best chance for a win on Super Tuesday , after he suffered defeats in previous contests in Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina and Nevada. Rubio visited the state the day of the caucus and visited Minneapolis last week to boost his chances in the state.

Rubio’s campaign was under significant pressure to win a state primary or caucus and demonstrate that he is a more viable alternative to Trump than Cruz.

There had been almost no polling done in Minnesota to determine how Republican voters were leaning, so it was difficult to assess who was the favorite leading into the caucus.

The state has 38 delegates, which will be awarded proportionally. Minnesota’s caucuses tend to be low-turnout affairs, like caucuses in other states, which means that only the most committed voters take time out of their evening to participate. A total of 595 delegates across the nation were up for grabs Tuesday.
