After sitting out last week's woeful 26-0 loss to Brisbane due to a hamstring complaint, the Dragons said he was no certainty to return against the Titans at Cbus Super Stadium.

The club is giving the veteran former New Zealand Test half every opportunity to prove his fitness but is under a cloud after being restricted at training this week.

He could only complete part of the side's sessions on Wednesday and Thursday and is racing the clock to be right to take on the Titans.

It comes as his side aim to arrest an alarming slump which has seen them fail to score a point over the last fortnight against North Queensland and the Broncos.

"We're going to give him every opportunity this week and (coach Paul McGregor) has named him in the side so we're pushing along those lines," Dragons head of performance Tony Ayoub said.

"We'll make a decision later on in the week.

"He ran on Monday and he trained part of the session today so we'll see how he pulls up and make a decision from there."
