Martin brings golf jetpack to the fore

NZ NewswireNZ Newswire 20/07/2016

It's piece of golf kit that promises to take off.

However, you might not be popular with your fellow hackers if you expect to complete the entire 18 holes in a personal flying device.

Christchurch-based Martin Aircraft Company, which is trying to get its Martin Jetpack to market, is touting the golf cart jetpack with pro golfer Bubba Watson.

It's a jetpack with a golf bag attached.

You'll get a bird's eye view of any golf course, says Martin boss Peter Coker.

The promotional video was shot at the Methven and Tai Tapu golf courses in Canterbury.

Watson isn't qualified to fly the jetpack - the flying was done by Martin's Mike Reed - but the golfer is third on the waiting list for a jetpack and training once it is certified and released to market.

Martin says its petrol-powered jetpack will be capable of reaching speeds of up to 74km/h, an altitude of 1000m and can fly for up to 50km.

It says it will start deliveries to emergency services later this year and personal jetpacks will be available from late 2017.
