Socceroos striker Mathew Leckie has signed on for the next Bundesliga season with Hertha Berlin.

Hertha Berlin have signed Socceroos striker Mathew Leckie from relegated Ingolstadt, the Bundesliga club said on Monday.

Hertha coach Pal Dardai named 26-year-old Australian Leckie "a versatile player" who can bolster Hertha's attack.

Leckie said he had a few new offers to consider but ultimately chose Hertha because of their recent success and Europa League berth.

"I had a few offers. Hertha stood out for various reasons. Hertha is a big, fantastic Bundesliga club," Leckie told the club website.

"They've been very successful over the last two seasons. Now they're playing in the Europa League. I also think that Pal Dardai is a great coach who I can learn a lot from."

One thing Leckie flagged as something to work on was his ability to find the net after a somewhat down season for Ingolstadt.

"There were too many chances that I didn't convert this season. I've scored more often in previous seasons," he said.

No details on a transfer fee and the length of the contract were given. Leckie, who has been named in Australia's squad for the upcoming Confederations Cup, had a contract in Ingolstadt until 2019.

Hertha finished sixth in the past Bundesliga season to earn a Europa League berth.
